It’s a typical scenario:

It’s 9:51 a.m., I’ve got an interview or a call at the top of the hour, and I’ve done the prep work, but it doesn’t feel like enough time to start anything else, so what do I do with the time?

Or it’s 12:23 p.m. and I don’t have to leave for my next meeting until 12:45 p.m., so I’m — out of bad habit, one I’m trying to change — scrolling the endless social media feeds, nibbling on the latest news, seeing what other people are creating.

What do I do with stitches of nine minutes, or 22 minutes of time?

It’s when I try to fit my practice in.

I’m currently practicing several things:

  • Physical therapy (for my back and to rehabilitate my pelvic floor and abdominal muscles from pregnancy).
  • Singing (a few warmups and trills here and there for fun, some lip rolls).
  • Even just a moment of morning pages and a few sentences, scrawled on the page.
  • A four-minute meditation (honestly my favorite kind right now because it’s the one that I actually do).

Nine minutes is a decent amount of time. There’s a lot that can be done in nine minutes, as long as we don’t reject it from the outset.

Addendum: This blog post was written and scheduled in seven minutes. Now I’m off to my 10 a.m. phone call.
